Programs

Through our innovative programming, Art Spark Texas serves approximately 10,000 adults, children, and teachers directly and 25,000 students, parents, and community members indirectly each year. We offer programs, events, and services based in four expansive core areas: education, cultural access & inclusive arts, professional development, and performances, exhibits & special events.

Art Spark Dance

In 2003, Art Spark Texas and Forklift Danceworks began working together to create opportunites for people with and without disabilities to dance together. In 2010, our integrated dance program was launched.

Artworks: Creative Industries

Artworks: Creative Industries is Art Spark Texas’ career development program for emerging artists with disabilities. The program serves artists around the state who, in addition to the regular challenges faced by artists starting their careers, face unique challenges of their own.

Veterans Services

Art Spark Texas started services specifically for veterans with disabilities/wounded warriors in 2009. We host an annual exhibition of veterans artwork and provide opportunities year-round for artists to get involved with our Artworks: Creative Industries professional development program. We also work with arts organizations statewide to forge partnerships with vet organizations to provide art programs for veterans and military families.

Speaking Advocates

This public speaker training program combines the art of storytelling with public speaking skills, so adults with disabilities can bring their stories to the general public and challenge misconceptions about the disability experience.

True Tales by Disability Advocates Podcast

Where advocates harness the power of storytelling to build community with their peers and hope to develop empathy in others. A team of disability advocates creates this True Tales podcast to share personal stories by disabled storytellers and add their voices to the growing community of podcast listeners.

Mobile Art Program - MAP (for Seniors)

The Mobile Art Program (MAP) is celebrating its 10th anniversary of providing free art activities to older adults in Austin. Envisioned by Theresa Zelazny, this program has helped hundreds of people living in residential facilities or at home with care partners to explore their creative minds through art-making and socialization.
