It is 2019 and we are off and running! I am really excited about what we have on our calendar for this year, and wanted to share a few highlights with you.
Currently, we are accepting nominations for our 2019 Haven Allen Artist of the Year Award. This award recognizes an artist based in Texas for a significant body of work, or for a one-time artist event that resulted in a systemic change within their community. We are also looking for artists who may have made a significant contribution to change in their own life through an artistic endeavor. We encourage artists of all disciplines to apply. Really, the door is wide open. You just need to nominate someone you know, or yourself! Nominations will be accepted through February 28, 2019. Feel free to reach out to anyone at Art Spark Texas for more information.
The award celebration will be held Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Sterling Event Center in Austin. Don’t let that hold you back from nominating someone. Last year we gave out two additional awards, so be sure you nominate an artist (ages 16 and up) because you never know. There may be an award out there with his or her name on it!

Another event I am excited about is the upcoming Opening Minds, Opening Doors six-week writing and performance workshop. We are pleased to announce that Tyler Gobble, UT Michener Center for Writers graduate and all around good guy, will be leading this class. Of course, Eric Clow will be his trusty sidekick, and rumor has it that Chris Strickling, long-time friend of OMOD, will be here for a few weeks to help get us in top form! Classes start March 30, and run Saturdays for 6 weeks (no class Easter weekend.) Speaker showcase on Saturday, May 18, 2019. Email Eric Clow for more information about how to apply to be a part of the class. We are currently accepting applications for a slot in the class NOW!

We have brought back our Spring Break Camp and are happy to announce that The Edge Of Imagination Station will be our resident artist. Applications will be available soon, so let us know that you are interested, by sending a message to [email protected]. Classes will be Monday through Friday from 10:00am – 2:00pm at the Art Spark Texas classroom. Stay tuned for more but be sure to sign up as we are sure it will fill up fast!
